Ye Olde Art Shoppe is featuring an artist and their work every two weeks in our gallery. The art is displayed in our front window and in our gallery room. Please join the artist for coffee/tea on the reception date for each.
We are attempting to bring more artists and their work to the public. We hope
you enjoy this feature at Ye Olde Art Shoppe. If you would like to become part
of the Showcase of Fine Arts or would like more information about a particular
artist or show, please contact us at yeolde@pioneer-net.com.
Thank you for your interest.
Sandi Whetzel May 1 – June 3
Sandi’s art has been featured
prominently at the Umpqua Valley Arts Center.
She created posters for the ‘Art and Wine Festival’ and the ‘Art About
Wine’ exhibit and displayed in other Umpqua Valley Art Association exhibits. The Umpqua chapter of the Oregon Winegrowers
Association features her work for auction and promotion of the Greatest of the
grape event. She is published in
‘Northwest Artist’ , a collection of works by notable Northwest artists. Sandi is an instructor for UCC community
education classes. The artist credits
most of her learning to her mentor, Bonnie Hill of Roseburg, who is a treasured
source of knowledge and inspiration.
Steve Mackintosh
is a Roseburg artist who uses oils on canvas to express his love of
travel. His colors are bright and vivid
and the scenes and people he paints seem to transport you to all the exotic
places in the world where he has traveled.
Ginger is a Roseburg artist who has
been painting and showing her work since 1986.
She has won many awards for her work and continues to study and perfect
her art. Her work is done in oil and
pastel. She likes landscapes,
seascapes, florals and portraits of animals and people. Ginger is a member of the Pastel Society of
Oregon and her work can be seen at many local galleries.
An artist from
the Southwest United States paints beautiful oil paintings on feathers. She specializes in wild life and miniature
scenes on real feathers.
Linda Freeman is the stepdaughter of
Bernie Jones and was influenced by him in her teenage years to do art. She had always done some kind of art or
crafts before that. She moved to
Roseburg in 1984, and studied with various local teachers. She owned and operated The Art Mill in
Roseburg until last year. Linda enjoys all art mediums and finds it fun to
explore new ideas and expressions. She
does private commissions, mostly portraits, but enjoys the pure joy of painting
for itself. She can paint a realistic or impressionistic piece, but likes to
play around with quirkiness and abstract pieces.
Bernie Jones, 94,
and a WWII veteran, is a lifelong professional musician (saxophone and
clarinet). He played with Ozzie Nelson
and went on to play on the TV show Polka Parade doing band music, solos, and
commercials for the show, and appeared on the Colgate Comedy Hour as well. As a child he learned to draw comics through
mail order and continued to do this as a hobby until the 1960’s. he then took up oil painting and had various
teachers, the most influential being Neal Boyle and spent many years painting
portraits from life. He has shown and
won awards in the Los Angeles area.
Bernie is no longer able to paint since losing an eye to cancer, but he
still performs music twice a week.
Open August 14 – August
26
Doris Collins August 28 – September 9
Doris started painting as a stress
reliever and discovered a love that has endured. She travels and takes photos so that she can capture the
experience on canvas and paper. Because
she loves to learn new mediums and techniques, she takes classes wherever she
travels. Her show will reflect that
love of travel, featuring southwestern art and florals.
Katherine is a Roseburg artist who
has a passion for Asian style watercolor, particularly for still life
paintings. She loves to visit and paint
the local vineyards. She works with
watercolor and oils, doing Oregon landscapes.
Her work can also be seen at the Portland Art Museum, Rental & Sales
Gallery and Palace Gallery in Oakland.
Katherine is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon.
Kisswell is a blending of
talents. Susie McKisick and Judy
Caldwell have painted together for years doing murals and other private
commissions, so it seemed natural to work together painting subjects that they
both love, Victorian homes and gardens.
Both artists are avid gardeners, love Victorian homes and décor. Their
paintings are large and abundantly floral, with bright vivid colors they are
both fond of using. Come take a stroll
in their imaginative Victorian gardens.
Both artists have won many awards and are members of the Pastel Society
of Oregon.
The big show includes artwork from
all of the fine artists who have participated with the Showcase of Fine Arts
since October 2004. The exhibit will
have oils, pastels, watercolors, sculpture, fabric art, colored pencil
drawings, graphite drawings and much more.
This showcase will be the best of the best. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the last “showcase of Fine
Arts” featuring artwork from the best of Douglas County artists.
