Mini Ziryab

This little beauty is an exact replica of the Traditional sculpture~ and she's so cute in SM size!  I am amazed at the level of detail and the quality with which the original was captured. Something I forgot to mention is that the original model that I had reproduced for the mini is one that I was customizing very slightly to look even more like my real mare.  I took the finished resin out into the pasture and carefully examined Blkbird again ( About to foal again for 2006~ one year after I started her in clay.)  The changes were in her belly, flank and heart girth areas.

Scale:  Large Stablemate~ 4" long.

Edition Number:  250 + some artist copies SOLD OUT.

Below is the newly completed ( Jan. 3rd, 2007) Mini Ziryab in bay rabicano.   The white spots in her eyes are not the whites of her eyes, but rather soft reflections of light painted to give her life.  There are so many layers of color using different media, that I lost count of just how many.  Metallic pastels accent her dapples, and a combination of pastels, colored pencils and acrylic washes were used to produce her rabicano markings. I used only photos of real horses with extreme rabicano markings for reference, so they are right on.  No detail was overlooked, and she has light pangere' to add further interest.  I don't think I could have crammed another feature into the paint work.  Please keep in mind that the photos are 2-4 times her actual size.  I always have a difficult time getting photos that look like the real thing, so as usual, I wish you could see her in person!  The light tends to pick up the metallics and make them look like bright spots, when in person, they are not.  The colors are not depicted accurately in the photos.  In life, she is a rich reds and golds, not dull browns and not as dark as she appears here.  I guess I need some big help in the lighting department!  There is a little dark dot on her belly that I have fixed since the photos as well.  Some other little dots appear in the photos that don't show up in real life....go figure! :)

I painted this mini Ziryab  below for a close friend of mine as a Christmas gift.  She is a portrait of her black arabian mare that  she just lost a few months ago to a liver disease.  She is a simple solid black, but I think it's great for photographing!  You can see all her details fairly well....except for her face.  These really do not show how smooth and lovely all the facial sculpting came out on such a small resin.

I have one small little batch of just a handful of mini Mammas that I'm waiting to recieve.  They should arrive here by the end of April and I will ship them out as soon as I get them from MVS!  Thank you so much to all who ordered!
