It was less than ten years ago that George Gallup found
that Americans voted
church to be the most boring event to attend. While we cannot alter the
message
God has given in the Bible, we are convinced much of the boredom people
experience in church is not a message problem but a method problem. Too
many
churches rely on outdated styles of communication to speak to people living
in
1999.
While we do respect the need for order and decency in
church services, we
disagree with the notion that church services should be tolerated and endured
to
be pleasing to God. Our understanding is that:
- Church services should give people a lift not a letdown....
therefore,
we do not spend our time dwelling on what is wrong but giving positive
solutions to everyday problems. The word gospel means good news!
- Church services should be understandable.... therefore,
what is
done in the worship service is done with today's person in mind. You will
notice the singing blends the best from traditional and contemporary
music. All Bible passages used in the sermon message are printed on an
outline from modern day translations so the first time visitor can follow
along and take the outline home for further thought. Our children's
church ministry (for those 3 yr. - 1st grade) conducted at both 9:00 and
11:30 AM is designed to meet the needs of little ones so parents can
benefit from the worship services.
- Church people should be real and genuine.... therefore,
we stress
that Tri-City Church of Christ is a place where people can be honest and
receive help and not where people give the pretense they have arrived at
a
flawless Christian walk.
- Church should be people-oriented.... therefore,
denominational
creeds and traditions are minimized and a relationship with Jesus Christ
is emphasized. At Tri-City, church traditions that have out-lived their
usefulness are not beyond being changed for better methods. Our desire
is to simply minister to people with the truths of Scripture.
