Peters Seed and Research is currently the only seed catalog in the world making seed of perennial grains (rye, sorghum, triticale and wheat) readily available for trial. Some of the advantages that perennial grains have over annuals are: reduced tillage and therefore less topsoil erosion, reduced fertilizer needs meaning less runoff into lakes and streams and they provide a good habitat for wildlife. The annual cost of buying seed each year is saved with growing perennial grain as well as labor cost. Erodible hillsides can be more efficiently put into producing food that would not normally be farmable.
In addition to perennial wheat, perennial rye and Perennial sorghum, we have many annual grains as well; many varieties are exclusive to our catalog.
Permaculture is the wave of the new green revolution.
